Red Light Treatments

One of the best-kept secrets of biohacking tools, out there today, is red light therapy. This straight-forward and easily administered biohack delivers benefits that can create sustainable and healing results!

The Science Behind Red Light Therapy Success

Let's start with the science behind what makes red light therapy work. Begin by envisioning your cells are similar to individual batteries. Each battery contributes a set amount of energy to the systems that make our body run efficiently and heal when needed. These cells/batteries are just like any other battery – they can lose their ability to produce energy (Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) cellular energy in the body).

When these cells start failing, inflammation and the degenerative process that comes along with inflammation take hold. Our body's healing functions slow, we heal at a less than optimal level, and we enter a diseased state.

Our Batteries Begin to Fail

These "batteries" are better known as mitochondria and can, with time and under normal conditions, heal. Unfortunately for most of us, we live life in such a way that the environment in our cells is seldom favorable for the body to properly and efficiently repair these tissues on its own.

So what might you ask are we doing that our cells are stuck in such a less than optimal condition? The simple answer is – exposing or bodies and minds to stress. The exposure to stress results in inflammation at the cellular level. Stress comes in one of three forms, Emotional, Chemical, and or Mechanical. All of which contribute to our the downward spiral of our body's cells.

The Discovery of Red Light Therapy

How and when did we discover the Benefits of Red Light Therapies? We have NASA to thank for some of the early, most compelling science behind red light therapy.

As with most discoveries, it did not happen on purpose but was the result of an experiment looking at the benefits of red light on plants. In 1993, the crew of the ISS (International Space Station) discovered their wounds began to heal faster with increased exposure to red light. When the scientist looked further into why this was happening, they found the light's ability to enhance the power of the batteries in our cells, to produce more ATP or cellular energy. This increased energy in the cells drastically increased the ability of the cells to heal themselves. As a result of this discovery, as early as the mid-90s, the US Navy SEALS began to use the treatment to help them accelerate their recovery from several different types of injuries.

Benefits of Red Light Treatments

There are a plethora of benefits that can be gained from using red light therapy, specifically Performance LED's Bio Max Lights.

  • Management of acute and chronic pain

  • RLT stimulates mitochondrial energy production as well as collagen synthesis

  • MIR wavelengths activate heat shock proteins to stimulate cellular self-repair and regeneration

  • Near-infrared light therapy has been shown to accelerate the healing of muscles, connective tissues, bones, brain, and even heal nerves following an injury.

  • Photobiomodulation also effectively supports the treatment of wounds that won't heal.

  • Improving Bone Health

  • AC joint pain

  • General pain relief

  • Improved physical performance (strength and endurance)

  • Arthritis pain relief

  • Faster recovery from a sports injury

  • Knee pain

  • Facet joint pain

  • Hair growth

  • Tennis elbow

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome

  • Hip pain

  • Neck pain

  • Shoulder pain

Red Light Therapy Is Not A Band-Aid

Light therapy is not a quick fix – it works at the cellular level. While it does offer some immediate relief, the real benefits come from consistency. It takes time to produce collagen, regrow tissue, allow cells to heal from chronic inflammation, and so forth. Red light is not a band-aid approach rather a tool, when used with constancy, will give your body an optimal environment for healing.
