The harder you workout, the fatter you get?

What if your workout is making you fat?

"What type of workout should I be doing?" 

That is the number one question potential clients ask me. 99.9% of the time I always respond,

"What is your goal?"

Then after a pause and while showing me their midsection, they will inevitably say,

"I want to get rid of this!"

My response often catches them off guard as I, depending on my relationship with the person, point to the same spot on them and say,

"This is not about what you do in the gym. This is about hormone control, predominantly insulin."

Yes, that's right. It is more about what you put in your mouth than what you do in the gym. Even more shocking for most is that what you are doing in the gym is probably making that problem area even LARGER!

Your workouts are making you fatter!

When people hear it could be their workout that is causing them to gain weight, this is often a big surprise. This is no fault of our own, as we have had it jammed down our throat for YEARS, we think we must eat less and move more. There is a lot of misleading and contradicting information out there.

So then how do you lose this weight? And is your workout really making you fat?

To lose weight, get your hormones in check. Talk to your doctor. If you need a referral to a doctor that truly understands this in the Tampa Bay area, let me know. I can put you in contact with a few.
Now onto the "meat" of the issue, if you will. Are you obsessed with high-intensity workouts? More is better? No pain, no gain? If it worked for you in your twenties, it should work for you now? Sorry, but hose types of workouts are making you fatter.

I know. I know. I'm telling you that those workouts that make you sore for days, the ones which make your knees and shoulders ache, aren't helping. Weight Loss alone is not a healthy option!

By doing such workouts...

....you are indirectly creating an environment in your body that is more conducive to fat gain than fat loss.

Now notice I said fat loss - not weight loss. If you want to lose weight, keep eating crap, and working out harder. Doing that will help you lose weight... well, at least for a little while. Oh, and you are going to want an exit strategy for this approach. Exit strategy? As in, what is your game plan once your joints are shot, and you can't work out at the same intensity anymore?‍

Create a body you love, that feels good, looks good, and will last you a lifetime!
